identity theft.   Identity Theft Seminar presented by Steve Dravin, Financial Advisor, Wachovia Securities, Florham Park on Sunday January 20 at 1:00pm at the library. The discussion will include the following key points:
  • what is identity theft and what are the types we see
  • the “points of compromise” of someone’s identity information
  • cost of identity theft
  • false identification as a facilitator
  • types of false identification
  • methods of obtaining false IDs
  • what you can do to minimize risks
  • warning signs
  • what to do if victimized
  • questions?

How to Obtain Retirement Income for Life Seminar also presented by Steve Dravinon Wednesday, February 13 at 7:30pm at the library. The agenda includes the following:
  • determining retirement income needs
  • important role of asset allocation
  • the 5 myths about retirement income
  • those TV commercials about the “800lbs gorilla”: what are they all about?
  • using the variable annuity to create a “personal pension”
  • who might be right for a variable annuity?
  • typical features and benefits; some drawbacks.

Ellis Island: Myth and Reality presented by Nancy Carnevale, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of History, Montclair State University on Sunday, February 17 at 2:00pm at the library. This program is sponsored by the Lincoln Park Public Libraryand the New Jersey Council for the Humanities.

Free Tax Assistance is available at the library from the first week of February through April 10. AARP Certified Tax preparation Volunteers are available to anyone by appointment, Tuesdays or Thursdays between 10:00am and 2:00pm. Appointments are necessary for this free service. 3 appointments are scheduled for each hour. Please call the library to reserve your appointment (973-694-8283).

The library will be offering “beginners” computer classes
for adults and particularly seniors. 
  typing.
  • The classes will deal with the basic parts of a computer, the use of the mouse
    and keyboard. 
  • Participants will learn how to search the library catalog to order and
    renew books and other materials and keep track of their account. 
  • They will learn how to search our databases and the Internet. 
  • Participants will also learn how to set up a free email account. 
Residents of Lincoln Park should telephone the library at 973-694-8283 and leave their names, days and times during the week when they are available.  The library will group participants into groups of 4 and return these telephone calls with the dates and times when our adults and seniors will be scheduled for their “beginners” computer class.
